We’ve all been there—your motivation is lacking or you have had some sub par workouts that lead you to question your running performance before an upcoming race. Who’s your biggest cheerleader– the one who always picks you out of your funk and makes you feel better?
I have to say that I would definitely NOT be the runner I am without my husband. I am going to get sappy for a moment. There are times in my running when I feel like throwing in the towel and take an extended vacation…
He’s always there to remind me that I am doing the best I can, and that’s good enough. He reminds me that there is more to my self-worth than what shows up on a race clock or on my Garmin. He tells me when I might be pushing myself a little too hard, and it’s time to back off a bit.
After talking things through with him, I always feel like things are better. The night before last was one of those nights, and the conversation helped to put things in perspective for me.
Although I sometimes feel like running takes over my life, since I do it a lot; and when I’m not running, I am usually writing about it!
On another note (for my local Falmouth/Mashpee friends), I checked out the new Anytime Fitness in Deer Crossing yesterday, and it was awesome. I LOVE the new Life Fitness treadmills that allow you to choose a course to “run through” while you are on the treadmill.
Yesterday I ran a route through part of Bavaria, Germany—on the trails and through cities! The technology was VERY cool and the staff there couldn’t have been nicer. You should check it out if you’re in the market for a gym.
Who is YOUR biggest cheerleader?
It’s great that your husband helps to give you that perspective and balance – it is so easy to be ruled by the numbers on the clock/garmin! My husband is definitely my biggest cheerleader too – couldn’t do it without him!
My family is always my biggest supporter but I’m always amazed how sometimes some random spectator at a race can make all the difference in the world for me. Sometimes those signs pick me up and change my whole race around!
I have to say that it is my husband and my daughter. My husband just supports me no matter what my crazy goal is. It is a mutal partnership too though since he is also a long distance runner. We make it work and support the other. And my daughter–well she is 3 1/2 and thinks I win the races because I get a medal…nothing better than a wee one telling you they are proud of you for running “super fast”
