This past weekend we headed down to the Mystic Aquarium for Tropical Sunsation 2017 (runs from February 18-26). There are many reasons we love Mystic Aquarium, one of which is the super fun things they do over school break for kids! The balmy temps (high 50s!) and the steel drum music made us feel like we were actually on a tropical vacation! It was the perfect backdrop for viewing fresh and saltwater aquatic life.
Tropical Sunsation at Mystic Aquarium
Tropical Sunsation will make you and the family feel like you really did go somewhere warm for February break! There are a ton of different activities to participate in including live music, educational animal presentations, arts and crafts, a beach party, hula dancing (with lessons!) and scuba selfies. Tropical Sunsation runs the whole week of February vacation (18-26) and is free with regular admission.

Aquarium Exhibits
Our first stop at Mystic Aquarium was to visit the beluga whales. They are so much fun to watch, and I love how they constantly swim by to say hi and photobomb your picture! 🙂 After enjoying the belugas, we went to the Ray Touch Pool to pet the cownose rays. The boys loved competing to see how many times a ray would swim by for a quick touch!

We then headed indoors for more touch tanks and to check out all of the beautiful aquarium tanks and exhibits. My favorite stop is always to see the collection of BEAUTIFUL jellyfish. I swear I could sit there and watch their tranquil movements all day…The boys loved checking out the hula performance and the 4D Ice Age: No Time for Nuts!

Before leaving we visited the African penguins and took a peek at the animal rehabilitation area. The best part of visiting the Mystic Aquarium is that you can come back the next day to visit anything you missed! Just have your admission ticket validated before you leave and you can use it to return for the next two consecutive days! With free parking, it’s a no brainer for school vacation week! 🙂
I took my daughter to the Mystic Aquarium when I was in CT training for 2 weeks and she loved it! I don’t remember any penguins though…we may need to go again next time we’re in CT!
You should! They are tucked in the back behind the beluga whales! 🙂
