Are you where you want to be in your health and running journey? This is a VERY cool and FREE tool to figure out how you’re doing and what you need to do to get to where you WANT to be. It takes less than 2 minutes to fill out —> HEALTHPRINT (log in as “guest”). I will receive a copy of the results and will send you an e-mail to discuss your results and what we can do to help you reach your nutritional goals. Feel free to reach out any questions by e-mailing me atjessica@thisrealmom.com.

Last month, I was super happy to receive a review copy of the Forks Over Knives Family: Every Parent’s Guide to Raising Healthy, Happy Kids on a Whole-Food, Plant-Based Diet by Alona Pulde M.D. and Matthew Lederman M.D. I have followed the plant-based diet 100% for some time, and although I don’t follow it strictly any more, we still use many of its principles in our home.

The Forks Over Knives (FOK) Family is not just a cookbook, but also a sort of primer for transitioning your family to the plant-based diet. Drs. Pulde and Lederman are the two family medicine doctors that appeared in the Forks Over Knives movie. They use the plant-based diet with their patients to improve their health, and they’ve had great results!

Primer for Transitioning Your Family to a Plant-Based Diet

The book begins with an overview of plant-based eating and living and then moves into the different stages of family life from a plant-based perspective. I love that the book discusses plant-based eating during pregnancy (including Dr. Pulde’s personal experiences)– it’s often hard to find sound information on this subject!

FOK Family then covers the first years of a child’s life and how to encourage healthy eating behavior and later how to help the whole family make the transition to plant-based eating. I enjoyed that they also included information on maintaining a plant-based diet while traveling and eating out– an area where many people can feel challenged!

Lots of Delicious Recipes!

There are SO many delicious recipes included in this book, and they are broken down into the following categories:

  • breakfast items
  • snacks, wraps, roll-ups and burgers
  • salads
  • side dishes
  • soups and stews
  • baked and stuffed
  • pasta and noodles
  • amazing grains
  • quick and easy
  • dips, spreads, sauces and dressings
  • desserts
  • basics

A few of our favorite recipes include the Mexican bowls and the minestrone soup! I have just started testing out the recipes, and I can’t wait to share more that we love. If you are considering switching to a plant-based diet or already embrace it, this is a great book to give you recipe inspiration and helpful info for the whole family!
