Super Smoothie Ingredients

FOOD/DRINK

This past week has been so hot and humid on the Cape, and smoothies have been my go-to breakfast when I get back from my early morning run.

Smoothies are great because they provide hydration, they are nice and cool, and they are healthy (depending on what you put in of course!).

Here are some of my super smoothie ingredients:

supersmoothieingredientsKale—Kale is a super food and, believe it or not, you don’t even taste it in your smoothie. Just remember to rip the leaves off the stems—the stems are very fibrous and don’t blend well!

Almond Milk/Coconut Milk—I don’t use regular milk at all any more. I used to drink vanilla unsweetened almond milk exclusively, but I recently discovered the Blue Diamond almond milk/coconut milk combo, and I love it. It’s a great source of liquid for the smoothie, and it’s nutritious and adds some sweetness.

Bananas—Bananas are great for adding some post-run potassium back into your body. They are also a great source of natural sweetness. You can freeze them ahead of time if you like.

Shaklee Life Energizing Shake protein powder—I love the Shaklee Life Energizing Shake protein powder because it’s plant-based, non-GMO and chock full of everything I need to stay powered up including probiotics to help reduce bloating and enhance digestion.

Baby spinach—Baby spinach has iron in it and also adds some greens to your smoothie (without the veggie taste). I add this into the kids smoothies all the time, and they never know it’s there! It’s a great way to sneak more vegetables into your kids’ diets.

Do you have a super smoothie ingredient to share?

I just started making smoothie’s myself. Thanks for sharing. I don’t like coconut, but I do see where people use a lot of almond milk. Hmmm.. maybe I should check that out.
