So, last night the speed work made its first appearance back since William’s birth. I decided to do a 10 minute warm-up and then buckle down and get my speed on! I was going to do 400m repeats but decided to just do a really aggressive cut down run instead. I hit the mid 8s and then pushed it down each half mile, all the way to the high 7s. It felt good to feel like my legs were really starting to turn over again! This was after an impromptu racing session with my 6 year-old.
The night before last my husband was telling him a story about caribou and the fact that the baby caribou can outrun its mother at 3 days old. My husband said “James, you’re six years old and you can’t even outrun your mom.” James replied with “Yes I can, I’m faster than Mom!” My husband said “No you’re not!” Then James says “Pshh, YEAH!” Clarke then says “What makes you think you’re faster than Mom?” James then makes the mistake of saying “Because she’s a girl!” Well folks, them are fightin’ words. Game on my friend!
Last night after the hubs got home from work and before I headed out for my run, we had a race in the back yard. The starting line was fixed, and my husband gave the starting instructions (he was at the finish line judging the finish). “On your mark, get set, go!” To make a long story short, I won and we did not have a very gracious loser. He accused me of having a head start and everything else in between! Sorry James, I just had to take this one for the “girls!” 😉
In other news, my friend Melissa recently sent me a SUPER CUTE headband to test out on the run. I wrote about her business Bzzyfingers a few weeks ago. She makes adorable children’s clothing and recently starting making headbands for working out. She sent me the one you see in the picture (knowing my obsession with all things nautical!), and I LOVE it! I have only been wearing Sparkly Soul headbands, but I have to say I like these even better! I wore the headband all day before running and then through my speed work session– no slippage! Not only is it so cute, it kicks a$$ in the performance department! Check them out HERE, she has so many cute color/pattern choices!
