Spanish, Spiders, and Viagra

Uncategorized

My friend SamanthaΒ tagged me to participate in a fun little blogging exercise – 11 Random Things You Didn’t Know About Me. I thought it would be fun, since I don’t reveal a lot about my personal life here on the blog! So here goes!

  1. I am a stickler for good grammar. I can’t stand it when I read a menu, advertisement, or publication and there are grammatical errors or typos! In other words, PLEASE let me know if you see one in my posts (gasp!)!
  2. I was a Spanish major and Latin American studies minor in college. I am fluent in Spanish.
  3. I am petrified of spiders–I am okay with snakes and rodents, but will not get anywhere near a spider (I can’t kill them though, I make my husband take them outside!).
  4. I sold Viagra when I worked for Pfizer. I have heard just about every Viagra joke known to man!
  5. I had to wear braces for 6 years–they went on in fourth grade and didn’t come off until I was a junior in high school. I am very happy with my teeth now. Thanks Mom and Dad!
  6. My son is named after two famous classic rock stars.
  7. My sister and I are 16 months apart. When we were little, everyone used to ask if we were twins. It drove us crazy (we don’t look that much alike now)!
  8. My wedding song was “Thank You” by Led Zeppelin.
  9. My favorite type of read is a good murder mystery.
  10. I failed my driver’s license exam the first time I took it–guess it’s a good thing I like to run!
  11. My day job consists of either watching my kids, teaching Spanish to pre-K and kindergarten students, or tutoring.

Here are Samantha’s11 questions for me and my answers:

Seriously- Who could resist this face?
  1. What is your #1 go to workout song?Β Right now it’s Pumped Up Kicks by Foster the People.
  2. If you had to choose 3 foods to eat for the rest of your life (and nothing else) what would they be? Peanut butter, bagels, and coffee (can I choose that as a food?!).
  3. If you were given an unlimited vacation budget – but it had to be used on ONE trip – where would you go and why? I would travel through South America. I have never been there and would love to visit Machu Picchu and hike through the Andes.
  4. What are you more afraid of: snakes or spiders? Definitely spiders!!
  5. Puppies or kitties? Do you have any? Puppies. We have an almost 7 year old rescued greyhound, Holly (she pops up frequently in the blog–see picture to the right). She is our second grey and I know we will always have one. I love the breed so much!
  6. What dead rockstar would you bring back if you could? Jerry Garcia- I am a big Grateful Dead fan and regret never having seen them in concert.
  7. What is the most random thing you collect (or have collected?)? Honestly, I don’t collect anything. I hate clutter!
  8. What one article of clothing (or accessory) do you have to wear every single day? A hair elastic.
  9. If you could only eat FRUITS or VEGGIES, but not both, which would you choose? Fruit.
  10. Beach or mountains? Why? Beach. I grew up on the beach (Falmouth, Cape Cod) and it’s part of who I am.
  11. What is your favorite band EVER? Led Zeppelin.

Great list! I don’t mind snakes or rodents either (unless I’m startled by them), but spiders give me the heeby geebies. It wasn’t always that way – when I was a kid (huge tomboy) I used to have no problem w/ them. Then I went to summer camp, and woke up one night in the cabin with a huge wolf spider crawling on my face. I’ve never screamed so loud in my life.

Thanks Janine! I have always been petrified of spiders– even more so after your story. Eeeeek! I don’t even know what I would do if that happened to me! πŸ™‚

I cannot stand seeing grammatical errors in books or on menus or signs. I always find the errors in books and my husband always thinks I’m nuts for finding them. But they stick out like such a sore thumb to me when I spot one!

Also – I love a good murder mystery!

I know, it drives me nuts!! I am constantly amazed by the lack of proofreading skills (there’s spell check for goodness sakes!) πŸ˜‰

Fun to read more about you! I didn’t know you were a Spanish major and teacher, you should definitely go to South America some day. πŸ™‚ I hate clutter, too!

One day, I will get there. That’s the tough thing about being a stay at home mom to the two littles–not as much money to travel all over!

Nice post, I think you can always tell a good q and a when you have read it and feel like you know a little more about the person who you have just read about. How ca you not like spiders but not like killing them? They will come back in your know!

I can’t kill anything! πŸ˜‰ I don’t like them, but I know they have a valuable place in nature (just not in my house)!

I failed my first attempt at getting a driver’s license too – because I was speeding LOL. And I still drive a little too fast now (but not nearly as fast as I did when I was younger…)

Ha ha! I took the first one in Hyannis, MA. In MA, you are road tested (I don’t know if this is still the case) by state troopers–talk about intimidating!

My husband and I are both HUGE Led Zeppelin fans. We joke (but are sort of serious) that if they get together again for a tour, we will take out a second mortgage if that’s what it takes to get there! πŸ˜‰
