Skirt(ing) the Question

GEAR

So, I am officially a convert to running skirts. I rarely wear shorts any more because I feel like the running skirts are WAY more comfortable for me. I bought my first two on a whim at T.J. Maxx. I figured for $14.99 each, how could I go wrong? On a side note, it’s kind of funny that the photo of me in the banner on my blog is of me in running shorts–probably the last pic you will see of me in them.

Why do I like running skirts so much? First off, I think they are just more comfortable than any running shorts I have ever worn.

I like the ones with compression shorts underneath (they typically come with a built-in panty or compression shorts).Β I feel like I can run without worrying about any chub rub or worry about my shorts riding up. I have worn them for short runs and runs up to 14 miles with no issues.

Secondly, I think that the running skirts are just more flattering on me than shorts. After having two kids and being a thirty-something, there are some things that I would rather be left to one’s imagination (you will not catch me in bun huggers any time soon!).

Lastly, I think that running skirts are really cute! Now that they have become hugely popular, there are so many different styles and every color and pattern you could possibly imagine. Although I only have two black skirts and a white one, I definitely plan on adding to this collection. I think I need to add a little more color to my line up!

So, my question for you is shorts or skirts and why?

I have one skirt but rarely wear it because the built in shorts rub my legs wrong. What brand do you prefer? Id’ like to wear them more but just think I need to find the right ones. They are super cute and sound more comfy than I’ve experienced. I also agree with the flattering aspect…much more so. I actually have gotten more “looks” when out running in my skirt than normal, ha.

My favorite one so far is the one I got at TJ Maxx (Avia) and one I got at a race expo – it’s B-skinz. I do think they are like shorts where it takes some trial and error to find just the right pair for you! Good luck–when you get the right one, I think you won’t wear shorts any more! πŸ˜‰

I often cut out the shorts/panties inside the skirt and wear my preferred compression shorts. A lot of skirts have attached shorts that are too short or too loose.

I love running skirts!! I have one from Target (Champion) that I bought several years ago that is my favorite. I also have a Nike running skirt that I really like. I am not as big of a fan of the one I have that is made by Under Armor, which is odd, b/c I usually love their stuff. The waistband is thick and that makes it seem tight.

Does Target still sell them? I haven’t seen any there recently, but I like their other stuff so I would love to try one! πŸ™‚

Seems that they do….here is the link to their “bottoms” in activewear and it is on the first page:

        http://www.target.com/c/women-clothing-activewear-bottoms/-/N-5xtck

Very similar to the one I bought years ago and under $20.

Thanks for the link Kim! I just wish they were on the racks in my local store. I like to try things on first, but for $20 I may just have to suck it up and order one! πŸ™‚

Skirts!! But I like the built in panty better. I feel like a badass runner but look feminine. I can pee in a bush more easily. They rub less. They’re more fun. I still train in shorts – have only 2 pair left though but always race in skirts

I love running skirts, but most are shorter than I’m comfortable with. That said, the shorts I love to run in have been discontinued (both brands!), so I’m going to have to find a new solution soon.

If you play this right, you might be able to sell your soone-to-be rare and vintage photos of you in shorts on ebay. The skirts are cute, but I don’t run so cannot speak to function. Skirt On!

I’ve never tried a running skirt! I usually run in crop pants, or shorts in the summer. But I get so frustrated when my shorts ride up!!! It sounds like a running skirt may be the solution to my warm-weather running attire. Thanks! I just might give em a try !

I only have one skirt, so i still mostly run in shorts, but I do really like the skirt. I think because I wear it so infrequently, it doesn’t feel like the ‘norm’ yet, but I definitely agree that they’re comfy and flattering!

I like my running skirt, but I don’t like it when I wear my belt hydration pack. It gets pulled up into the strap! ha. When it’s just me and the run though, I think it’s much cuter and way more comfy.

I have a Target one that I used to wear a lot, but then I found some running shorts that I loved (at Old Navy, of all places!), and have been wearing those all the time lately. Might have to dig out my skirt again soon, though – it was fun to wear!

I keep missing all the good gear at Target. I searched for a pair of their fleece lined tights and couldn’t find them. I need to get on the ball! πŸ™‚
