The winner of the Sparkly Soul Headbands was #22 Lisa H. Congrats Lisa! I know you will love the headband bling–I wear mine all the time now!
I am really not a big fan of New Year’s resolutions–I think they are made to be broken! I do like setting goals throughout the year, so that is how I am approaching my 2012 running season. For the 2012 season, I would like to broaden my racing horizons and add some different distances into the mix. This past year, I did quite a few 5Ks– seven to be exact–I think it’s time to move onward and upward. I am sure a few 5Ks will still pop up on the racing calendar, but I don’t think there will be quite as many as this past year.
In 2012, I already have a half-marathon on the calendar (March) and a 15K, so I think it’s off to a great start. Although I like the speed of the 5k, I would like to work on increasing the distance I can run at a faster pace. I did my first half marathon with the goal of finishing– this year I want to race it. The Utica Boilermaker 15K just sounds like a really fun race and it’s on my bucket list, so I can get a twofer with this race!
Lastly, I wanted to try something unconventional–that I would have never considered doing. This is where the Warrior Dash comes in. It’s so atypical of me to try something so radically different than the normal race– something that will be a real challenge for me on a lot of levels. As I get older, I am trying to move myself outside of my comfort zone more often. Change is often painful at first, but it forces you to try things you wouldn’t normally do. This is going to be my motto for my running in 2012. I am going to embrace new things and push myself more. I want to really see how far I can go.
What are your running resolutions for 2012?
Yay! I can’t wait to try them out. Thanks so much! Where is the warrior dash? My friend did a Tough Mudder last April with a bunch of buddies and really enjoyed the experience. It was a blast to watch 🙂
You will love them! 🙂 The Warrior Dash is in Thompson, CT–it would be a quick trip from NYC, want to sign up?
Those Warrior Dash and Tuff Mudders races look like fun, but I am afraid I would try to take them as competitive which they really are not. I’m running a 10k and 2 5k’s this spring, The Mass Dash Relay in July and a fall marathon. Goals are to run a sub 19:30, sub 41, and sub 3:30 at those distances. And I want to get 2,600 miles for the year.
