Our Christmas 2013

PARENTING

It’s hard to believe it’s over already! We had a great Christmas filled with family time. On Christmas Eve I hosted my first dinner since we moved in. It was nice to unpack all of the china and other wedding gifts we got 7 years ago and finally have the space to use!

Clarke 121513 MTB 005_opt (1)The dinner went off well, aside from the puncture in the disposable aluminum pan holding the ham—just a little spoke and oven cleaning, no biggie! Winking smile Luckily,  my mom’s in law is attached to the house, so we had another oven to use in a pinch.

My favorite recipe was by far the Butternut Squash and Potatoes Au Gratin! Everyone loved it, and I would definitely make it again. I tweaked the recipe a little. Instead of doing the whole head of garlic cut in half, I minced it all. I also skipped the nutmeg, since I am not a big fan.

We managed to get the kids into bed by 9:30 and then woke up for Christmas brunch at our house in the morning. My in laws live about 15 minutes away, so they always come over to our house for Christmas morning. I did a breakfast casserole that I made ahead of time, so prep wasn’t too bad.

The kids had a great time opening gifts (as predicted) and were content to play with the new toys until it was time to go to my in laws for Christmas dinner. The next morning, I was ready for a vacation! I love the holidays, but sometimes it can be exhausting…

My sister and brother-in-law came yesterday and will be here for almost a week, so we will get to have some more quality family time—can’t wait!

Running related: I went out for almost 3 the other day and felt like I am getting a little endurance back—fewer walk breaks. SmileYesterday my five and a half year old went out for another run together. J went further before he had to walk and was very proud of himself. He definitely ran most of the 1.5 mile run. I was a proud running mama!

He looks forward to getting to run together, and it makes me so happy!

How were your holidays?
