If you’ve ever been to the chiropractor before, there’s a good chance that you have had electrotherapy; probably transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation (TENS), which is the most commonly used. Electrotherapy has been used for over 100 years for pain relief. There are several different theories as to why electrotherapy seems to relieve pain: 1) electrical stimulation can block the transmission of pain signals along nerves and 2) electrotherapy releases endorphins–the same “feel good” chemicals that cause “runner’s high.”
While you can still take advantage of TENS at the chiropractor’s office, you can now do it at home too. The Omron Electrotherapy Unit is a small, portable device that can provide the same type of therapy for the relief of acute and chronic pain. I recently received an Omron Pain Relief Pro unit to test out. I had never received TENS before, so it was a new experience for me.
I opened up the device, put it in the batteries, and followed the simple instructions to get it set up– it really was easy! While I am not currently experiencing any pain (thank God!), I still wanted to see what TENS felt like. It’s definitely a strange feeling. The best way I can describe it is tingly. I am anxious to see how it works the next time I have a muscle strain!
If you are experiencing muscle or joint pain, simply use the Pain Relief Pro for at least 15 minutes. There are 8 different modes (joints, lower back, arm, leg, foot, tap, knead, and rub) and 10 different intensity levels. The unit is about the size of a smart phone, so it’s definitely very portable! It comes with two pads, and you can purchase additional pad refills if needed. If it’s possible to get rid of pain without drugs, I’m all for it; and this is a great drug-free alternative for pain relief that I will be using the next time I need it! One lucky reader will also get a unit of their own ($69.99 value)! Just follow the instructions in the Rafflecopter widget below.
