Christmas this year was especially exciting, since it’s the first year that my older son really “got” the whole Christmas and Santa thing. He was super pumped to see what Santa brought him Christmas morning. Apparently Santa did his job well this year– the gifts were a hit and he got some great sugar cookies Christmas Eve!
It was also nice to receive some wonderful gifts. As a mother, I feel like I rarely buy things for myself anymore (except running shoes!). I am sure all of the other parents out there can relate! This year, I got some great running gear. Two of my favorite gifts came from my husband and my mother.

My mother gave me money to buy a new Garmin! I have been ready for quite awhile to lose the FR60 and upgrade to a GPS-enabled watch (the FR60 only works via footpod). Since she wasn’t sure which watch I wanted (and neither was I until completing a lot of research), she just gave me the money to use for the watch. I ended up settling on the 305 after a lot of internet research. I know it’s a little bigger than the other watches, but I think it has all of the features I am looking for and more for me to discover.
The 305 will be in my hot little hands Wednesday afternoon thanks to Amazon Prime. Thanks Mom! I can’t wait to test it out on Thursday’s run! Although I still hope to maintain some Garmin-free runs, I think it will make a great addition to my training arsenal.
What were your favorite Christmas gifts this year? Did you get new running gear?
My favorite gift was the Garmin 210 my husband picked out for me. I’ll be using some Christmas money to get a road id, team sparkle skirt and maybe a matching sparkly band.
Good job J! What a great gift– now we have another running addiction 😉
I have the 305 and really like it. I’m learning new features often and am fully enjoying it. I got it used from my mom … Otherwise I don’t know how I would have afforded it.
It is gigantic, and sweating underneath it is gross and uncomfortable, but it’s worth it.
Cool running skirt.
I was hoping for a new running top, but since my black Friday shopping became my Christmas presents, that didn’t happen.
I can’t wait to find out all of the cool things it can do. I do agree that it’s large, but it’s not like I am going to wear it for an everyday watch, so I’m okay with that. Bummer on the new running top, but at least you scored some good Black Friday deals! 🙂
Those are both really great gifts! I didn’t get any large running gear items, but I did order a pair of compression socks for myself to try out. Enjoy playing around with your new Garmin!
I’ve already opened it up and charged it–now for the fun part! I think you will like the compression socks Laura. I wear them on long runs, and I think it really helps!
I got a the same TeamSparkle skirt. Love it. And I think Santa did well in our house this year as well.
Woo hoo! We should wear them at a race together! Are you wearing it for your next marathon? 😉
Awesome gift!!! I cannot believe I don’t have a Garmin. Trained for my marathon the entire time- mapping out my runs on the computer etc. I borrowed my sister’s for one long run and not only did I enjoy knowing exactly where I was, but also ran my fastest long run of the training cycle.
I know it will be addicting, but I can’t help it! 😉 The 305s have come down so much in price. I picked mine up on Amazon (with the HR monitor) for $199. Can’t wait to try out all of its cool features. My runnerdness will be going up a couple of more notches!
