My Coldest Run Yet (and Catching Up With Old Friends)!

Uncategorized

Yesterday morning, I had a running date. One of my high school classmates and fellow blogger, Megan, and I arranged to meet up for a six miler at 8 a.m. on the Shining Sea Bikeway. It was FREEZING (actually below freezing). When I was on the way home, I checked the temperature and it was 27 degrees, with the wind chill- 15! If we use the 15 degree measurement, it would be my coldest run yet!

I guess yesterday’s run bodes well for my pledge to run outside more this winter. It actually didn’t feel as cold as I thought it would, so I was happy to have dressed appropriately. The Saucony Vizipro (pink) Ethereal Jacket that I picked up at my local running store (total steal during their 12 Days of Christmas Sale!) was perfect for a wind blocking top layer. I even rocked a scarf, but could have left that behind.

As a relative newbie to the whole social media universe and blogosphere, I am constantly amazed at the connections you make–both new and old. Megan and I went to high school together in Falmouth, but we had not seen each other since graduation. We are Facebook friends and keep in touch through social media, so it made perfect sense to meet up for a run when she was stateside for Christmas. She currently serves in the U.S. Navy in Senegal.

Although we had not talked live in about 16 years, we fell into a familiar banter and the six miles passed before we knew it! Running conversations are the best. We were able to catch up on each other’s lives and more. I am so happy to have had the chance to catch up and hope you have a safe flight back to Senegal Megan! Hope we can catch up for a run next time you’re home.

Yay for running with old friends! And good for you for facing the cold– I had many long, cold runs in upstate NY last year… the hardest part was finding the motivation to get out there, but I found if I layered up properly, I was rarely cold once I got going. Hope you can keep getting out there this winter!

It’s crazy how fast you warm up while running. I had on a long sleeve tech tee, 1/2 zip, and then the ethereal jacket and I was sweating hard core about 10 minutes in!

[…] Over the holidays, I have managed to keep up my running schedule—mostly to offset the hectic Christmas schedule and to stave off the sluggish feeling of too many holiday treats! I convinced the hubs to join me on a few more runs. I got in a great 10-miler on Sunday via my favorite bike path in the world. […]
