Monkey Bars ~ A Fun Snack Made with the New Lara Nut Butters!

FOOD/DRINK

Monkey Bars Close-up

This is a sponsored post on behalf of Acorn Influence and its advertiser Lara Nut Butters. All writing, opinions and photography are my own.

I have always loved Larabars, so I was SUPER excited to try the new Lara Nut Butters. After tasting them, I think I’m in love! Now available at Costco in the Bay Area and the Northeast, it comes in two different flavors (made with cashew and almond butters): Chocolate Coconut and Banana Nut.

New Lara Nut Butters

The Lara Nut Butters are non-GMO, no stir and made with whole seeds (sunflower, pumpkin and flax). In addition to the kid-friendly treats we created below, the nut butters are also delicious in yogurt, smoothies, oatmeal or used as a spread on toast, apples or other fruit! Of course you can always eat them out of the jar with a spoon like I did! 🙂

A Better for You Treat ~ Monkey Bars!

The monkey bars we made are a take on a treat my mom used to make us when I was little. She would cut the bananas in half, roll them in chocolate syrup and then in rice crisp cereal before freezing them. When I first got the Lara Nut Butters, I thought they would be perfect for a similar treat (only better!).

To get started, line a baking sheet with wax paper or parchment paper. Depending on how many treats you want to make, cut the bananas in half, peel them, and insert a small wooden craft stick (you can use popsicle sticks too, but they are sometimes a little too wide) and line them up on the baking sheet. Spread the Chocolate Coconut or Banana Nut nut butter evenly around the banana halves and then roll them in the rice crisp cereal.

When you are finished, place the tray in the freezer for a few hours and then enjoy! The boys LOVED these as an afternoon treat– they kept demanding to have another one! I love that with their monkey bar treats, they are still getting fruit, protein, fiber and iron! I will definitely be picking up a few more jars on my next trip to Costco!

These look delicious! I recently wrote a post about natural fuel options for runners and I’m always on the lookout for great options made up of simple, but nourishing ingredients. These look like a great choice–without the stick while running of course 🙂 Thanks for sharing! I’m glad I’ve discovered your blog!
