Most of the time I would say this is true. Yesterday, however, mom had to take a sick day. I got the nasty 24 hour fever that my boys had a couple of weeks ago. Yesterday afternoon I started feeling a little off. After dinner I came home and took the hottest shower I’ve ever taken and proceeded to wake up in the middle of the night drenched in sweat. Not fun! It’s weird because the virus doesn’t come with any other symptoms besides the headache and a fever. Towards the end of the day yesterday I started feeling better, and today I feel pretty normal.
While I love so many things about being a mom, one thing that I miss is not being able to take a sick day. Life doesn’t stop and you still need to take care of your kids and the house. That being said, my husband stayed home from work yesterday. I have to admit that it was nice to be able to just rest and recover. Thankfully I could take it easy since I hadn’t slept much the night before! As a bonus, he even went grocery shopping (one of my least favorite things to do).
Needless to say I didn’t get any running in yesterday. At this rate I’m really hoping I will be able to run a decent half in Philadelphia at the end of November. All told I’ve had about three weeks off in the middle of my training cycle. I’m hoping that as I ease back into training I will have the stamina to run the race that I want! I am trying not to be too hard on myself and to be realistic. It just seemed like I was finally hitting my stride in training and, of all things, it’s the damn toenail that gets me!
On a more positive note, I am pretty excited to get my orthotics at the end of next week. Also, did I mention that we are going to Disney World? We are going for a quick three night, four-day trip. It’s going to be so much fun! The older boys are at an age where I know that they will remember so much and can really “get it.” They are so excited to see their favorite characters, and I have to admit I am so excited to go back! I have always loved Disney World– it has a special place in my heart.
I am also excited to see the new paint job happening in the kitchen. I think the colors that I picked out are going to work really well, and it’s already starting to lighten things up so much! I have one wall done, and it’s like taking a big breath of fresh air when I walk through the room! I am hoping to have another big chunk done by the end of the week.
