Today is going to be a hard day. It’s the first day after a three-week visit with my sister and my niece, and we are missing them hardcore. We look forward to their visits, which are usually a few times a year, but it’s bittersweet because we know there will be a goodbye at the end. My niece is 2 1/2 and she and my youngest are 9 months apart. They have always shared a special bond that seems to grow stronger each visit. Since they stayed for longer this time, it was especially hard to see the two of them separated.
We jokingly refer to them as a “package deal” but it’s not far from the truth. Whether they are out roaming around in the yard in the Cozy Coupe or racing around the swing set, one is never far from the other. Spontaneous hugs are the norm, but there are also minor squabbles over shared toys. I wish I had a million pictures of the sweet moments shared between the two of them, but there are too many to count.
The first thing my 3 year-old said this morning is “Where’s A?” I said, she’s on her way back to California and he said “I miss her.” It almost broke my heart. Rather than wallow in self-pity, I decided we need to get up and out of the house this morning to distract ourselves. We hit up Christmas Tree Shops for some new nets and buckets and logged some quality time at the beach. Vitamin Sea always makes everything feel better!
