Me vs. Humidity– Who Will Win?

Uncategorized

For those of my fellow peeps on the Cape (and many other areas I’m sure!), this humidity is absolutely killing my running mojo. The other day I headed out for my morning 3-miler and it was 99% humidity. It’s just hard to psych yourself up for that plus heat!

Yesterday I had six miles on the schedule and couldn’t get out in the morning. I checked the weather conditions and it was about 85% humidity and 84. Understandably, I wasn’t too thrilled about running outside.

Instead, I opted to head over to my nice well-air conditioned gym. I think it was the better choice! I had just had two many days of running in soup and too late of a start.

I did catch my ospreys again the other day in the morning. See picture below:

Since I knew it would be another hot one today, we headed to the beach early in the morning for some play time in the sand and water. I feel so blessed to live right down the street from such a beautiful spot.

The kids are adjusting SO well to life here on the Cape and being able to be outside in their yard or at the beach all the time. Smile I took today as an off day, so I will be up super duper early tomorrow to get my run on.

How have you been coping with the heat and humidity on the run?

My schedule called for a 6-mile progression run the other week. It turned into a regression run. I still put in the miles, but each was slower than the one before. I miscaIculated hydration during the day and paid for it on my run. It turned into more of a mental workout in hot, humid conditions as I pushed through to the end.

Then last night, I cut short 1600m repeats on the track. It was 89 degrees and equally humid when I left the house at 8:00. I was glad I ran, and I was glad I cut it short.
