Most of my readers know that I am a stickler for safety while running, so I was very intrigued when I was offered the chance to review a pair of Knuckle Lights. Since many of you have to run in the early morning hours of darkness or at night after work (when someone else can care for the kids!), good lighting is really important.
The two main options that you have for lightning on the run are headlamps and handheld flash lights. Personally, I just can’t do the headlamp thing and I really don’t like carrying much when I run. The Knuckle Lights seemed like a great alternative for light on the run.
Each Knuckle Light has 4 LED lights that provide 45 lumens of light (for those of you that are up on light specs). I don’t know too much about comparing lumens, but I can tell you that the Knuckle Lights are VERY bright. As the name implies, Knuckle Lights fit over your knuckles and are held in place by a silicone strap (see photo). They are adjustable to fit any hand size.
Since I don’t run in the dark in my neighborhood because it’s not that safe, I chose to test out the Knuckle Lights in my hometown on the Cape. I took them for a four mile run at around 6 p.m. While there are some street lights along the way, there are definitely spots on the route that are very poorly lit. I really liked that I could adjust the light beams simply by moving my hands.
I was pretty surprised at how far the light projected. I picked up the reflectivity of street signs really far out in front of me. This light projection is a great safety feature. Drivers see LED lights much sooner than reflection on your clothes or shoes, so a plus in my book.
The Knuckle Lights come in a variety of colors: silver, black, blue, pink, and yellow and come with 2 AAA batteries for each Knuckle Light. I enjoyed being able to use them right out of the box. There is nothing more annoying than getting a new toy in the mail and not being able to use it right away!
I would definitely recommend the Knuckle Lights as a great alternative to head lamps or handheld flash lights. They were super comfy and very practical.
Knuckle Lights provided 30 Something Mother Runner with a complimentary pair of Knuckle Lights for this product review. I did not receive any payment for writing this review, and all writing and opinions reflected in this review are my own.
I love these!! My hubby got me some for Christmas! They’re awesome! I also use them when walking the dogs. The only “complaint” is that they don’t expand enough to fit over my heavy winter mittens. But since they weren’t designed for that, I don’t really think I can complain about it! 🙂
I have also used them for dog walking! Glad you like your Knuckle Lights too (what a nice hubby!). I hear you on the mitten issue, hadn’t thought of that one yet since it’s been so mild…
