I was sitting on the playground after school the other day when a friend’s child fell and got a bloody lip. Thankfully the school was still open for first aid supplies, but I offered up the ice pack from the first aid kit I keep stashed in the back of my van. At a friend’s suggestion, I thought I would share what we keep in our minivan’s first aid kit– and it gets A LOT of use with our 3 boys! I have one at home as well, but I will say that the car kit gets more use.
How to Assemble a First Aid Kit for Your Car
I purchased a standard first aid kit similar to this one at my local drug store. It contains the following items (some of which I added after purchasing the kit). You could definitely make your own starting with a plastic box or caddy, or you can do what I did and do a semi-homemade one!
- Ice pack (great for playground injuries!)
- Gauze pads
- Band-Aids of various sizes
- Neosporin (tube or single-use packets)
- Non-stinging wound wash
- Cleaning wipes for hands
- Disposable gloves
- Benadryl (so helpful in case of an allergic attack)
- Children and adult ibuprofen (Motrin)
- Children and adult acetaminophen (Tylenol)
- Tweezers (great for removing ticks, insect stingers or splinters!)
- Dramamine
- Hydrocortisone cream (optional, but great for any itching due to plants or insect bites)
- Hand sanitizer
- Adhesive tape
