International Women’s Day is March 8 this year, and I’ve been reflecting on what inspires me as a woman (and woman business owner), and I keep coming back to the role that running has played throughout my life.
After taking an extended break from running (I always say it’s peaks and valleys when it comes to running!), I’m happy to be back on the roads and trails! Since my youngest son headed off to kindergarten this fall, I’ve had the chance to focus full-time on my business. It’s been a learning process figuring out my work at home routine, but I’ve made sure that daily exercise is an integral part of my workday.

I break daily at lunch to head out for a run along the beach (my happy place!). I like scheduling my run during the middle of the day because it helps to get my creative juices flowing and allows me to work through any blocks encountered during my morning work stretch.
Confidence
I’ve rediscovered the empowering feeling I get from running and the confidence I feel when I get back from a run. When you start running again (even after a LONG break!), it doesn’t take long to see progress and build momentum. This confidence translates to so many different areas of my life, including my role as a business owner.
Being a solopreneur means that I’m often presenting to groups and negotiating pricing, just two of the many tasks that require confidence. Just like running, it gets easier the more you do it!

Goal Setting
Whether it’s training for a half marathon or increasing the distance of my long run, goal setting is common in running and definitely translates into other aspects of my business! I’m currently setting three daily goals and one weekly goal in my business and I’ve adopted a weekly one for my running!
Running gear staples for spring
I recently found myself needing to add some running clothing to my wardrobe again, along with a new pair of sneakers! I chose a comfy, lightweight pair of capris to transition from spring to summer. The adidas Solar Drive 19 shoes are perfect for every day runs and also look great to wear around town! The shoes are super breathable and comfy and are well-cushioned for daily runs.
I wear 3/4 tights during the spring, summer, and fall, so I always have a few pairs in rotation. My latest pair– from adidas– is soft and stretchy. The mesh side panels offer great breathability and there are even a sweat-guard pocket and reflective accents! I paired these tights with the adidas Run-It tank top. This tank is lightweight and loose-fitting– a perfect combo for me!
