I’m so excited (and a bit sad!) that this is the last week of school for the two older boys. The last day is a half-day, and after that we are whisking them away for four days of summer fun in Vermont! This past Father’s Day weekend the weather was absolutely GORGEOUS! It was a quintessential weekend on Cape Cod complete with a sea breeze and a lot of sunshine (and running of course!).
Heart Rate Training Update – Week 3
I am in Week 3 of heart rate training, and I’m still loving it (shocking I know!). I have tried heart rate training a few times before without sticking with it, but I feel like this time I’m in the right place for it. I no longer care about slowing down to keep my heart rate in the proper range. Sure, I’m seeing paces that are much slower than I know I can run, but you know what? I am SO OKAY with that!
I have been slowing down and enjoying my runs A LOT more than before, all the while logging a decent amount of miles. I haven’t decided yet what my racing plans are for the fall, but I will definitely be working on heart rate training through the summer to increase my aerobic base before signing up for a fall race.
I have, like others, noticed that my resting heart rate has dipped a bit. It’s also been easier to figure out a pace that keeps me close to 140 bpm, but just under. In the beginning it was walk-run, walk-run and walk-run (very choppy). Now I have a better sense of what the pace feels like to continue running and stay at my target heart rate.
It’s the Last Week of School!
This morning I packed my third to last lunch (squeeee!). I don’t know about the rest of you, but I am SO OVER packing lunches (most of you have kids that are already out of school!). I am very happy to be in the home stretch. There is just so much going on this time of year, and I can’t wait to kick back and relax a bit when school’s out. I use the word “relax” loosely here! 🙂
What are your plans for summer?
I’m so done with packing lunches both for myself and Em!! I can’t wait until I can just pack pb&j for the beach and call it a day!! I may take my 4 weeks sidelined and think about heart rate training…you have me curious!!
Yes Nancy! Check out the AMR podcast on heart rate training wth Coach MK– it’s what convinced me to start again! 🙂
