Since many of us are trying harder to eat healthier, I thought I would put together some of my best healthy eating hacks to get you started and keep you on track!
Some of My Family’s Favorite Healthy Snacks
Since I often get “hangry,” I am never without healthy snacks. When hunger strikes, you want to fuel yourself well and not succumb to temptation! I stash snacks in my pantry, car and in my bag, so I can make smart snacking decisions most of the time. Fueling myself (and my family) with healthy snacks helps to keep me from getting too hungry and grabbing less healthy foods in desperation!

My 3 boys snack non-stop, and I’m totally not exaggerating on this one. I swear I will need a separate job just to feed them when they get to be teenagers! I try to choose snacks that have a good amount of protein and fiber without much added sugar. One of our favorite new snacks is Somersaults! We got to try all of the flavors of these sunflower snacks, and they were a hit with the ENTIRE family!
The first ingredient in Somersaults is sunflower seeds, which are packed with protein! They are also a great source of fiber, vitamin E and other healthy fats. Each serving of Somersaults contains:
- 150 calories
- 5-6 grams of natural plant-based protein (depending on the flavor)
- Less than 3 grams of sugar (LOVE this!).
- 3 grams of fiber
The Somersaults snacks come in 4 different flavors: Sea Salt, Salt & Pepper, Cinnamon and Dutch Cocoa. My favorite flavor is the Cinnamon, but the boys love the Dutch Cocoa! They are non-GMO verified and certified vegan. Additionally, they are 100% nut-free.

Other snacks we love include:
- Apple with 1 tbsp of peanut butter (or almond butter) or string cheese
- ½ banana and 10-12 almonds
- Hardboiled egg and ½ cup of berries
- Smoothie (with protein powder)
- Small handful of healthy trail mix
- Organic corn chips with guacamole
- Air popped popcorn and watermelon
