Nothing prepares you for what happens when you go through pregnancy and childbirth— I know that’s an understatement! Some side effects you expect, like morning sickness, heartburn or that pregnancy “glow.” One that you might not expect is light bladder leakage (LBL). It happens to A LOT of women, either during pregnancy, after giving birth or both!
I remember being pregnant with my second son and having horrible morning (or all day) sickness all the way up to about 20 weeks. I would vomit several times a day and on several occasions the heaving was enough to cause LBL. It was pretty glamorous ladies– vomiting and peeing yourself at the same time! I remember feeling exasperated that I had no control over it.
In fact, LBL was one of the things that interfered with my life most while pregnant, since I was constantly worried that I would be out and about when it happened!
For many other moms or expectant moms, you experience LBL from coughing, sneezing or jumping up and down. I’m going to throw running into the jumping up and down category. Working out is such an important part of staying healthy while pregnant and after having kids, and it’s not something I wanted to give up due to LBL, nor should you!
Thankfully there is a product like Poise Microliners that can help you enjoy a summer of running or whatever activity you like to do to stay active, without worrying about LBL.
The Poise Microliners are super thin and comfortable– perfect for helping you feel protected without looking or feeling bulky in your running clothes. 🙂 Having an extra layer of security is a good feeling to have! I recently picked up a package (in a convenient two-month supply) from Walmart along with all of my other groceries!
Did you experience light bladder leakage during pregnancy or after? If so, did it affect your workouts or running?
I had my son at age 35 and developed gestational diabetes. I gained a lot of weight really fast and it was torture for my small frame! As a new runner, the first day I was running down a steep decline, to my disappointment I discovered that I had no bladder control when running downhill or when sprinting at full throttle. I was devastated at first but later relieved to learn how common this is and that Poise not only has liners but offers a modern twist on an old standby known as a pessary. It is a game changer and I use them regularly!
It is so common Amber! I’m so glad you found something that works well for you! 🙂
