A while back I posted a very popular article on a thirty-something mother runner named Wendy Thomas. For those of you who are not familiar with Wendy, she is a 32 year old mother of two boys who is running in the Olympic marathon trials this weekend.
What makes Wendy’s story so amazing is that she didn’t start formal “training” until about a couple of years ago! She ran in fun runs, but clearly had some majorly untapped running talent. She now owns a sub 16:00 minute 5K time, a 34:03 10K and a 1:13:46 half marathon!
After posting my piece on Wendy (being the sweet and modest runner she is) she left this comment on my blog:
Thanks so much for your support! A friend came across your post today and told me to read it. It put a smile on my face as I waited in the airport heading home from Japan. Good luck with your running!!!!!!!!
Tomorrow, Wendy will be traveling to Houston to compete in the Trials, if you are on Twitter, please tweet her a good luck message at @runningrookie11! I know she would appreciate it. Here is our Twitter conversation from yesterday:

OMG. LOVE this!! I was just saying yesterday how the “everyday” runners are the ones that inspire me the most! Especially moms =) Thanks for the bio on Wendy! Let’s GO WENDY!!
That’s awesome! I’ll be on the lookout for her… love that you could send her best wishes from all of us! 🙂
How great! That’s amazing that she’s only been training seriously for a couple of year. WOW! What an inspiration.
It’s crazy! Talk about hard work and some serious natural talent!
That’s AWESOME! A testament to hard work and going after it… Too often you hear “I can’t this” or “I’m not made for” it’s nonsense! GO FORTH.. Go AFTER IT.
I know! No excuses everyone! 🙂
