A few weeks ago I registered for the Cape Cod Half Marathon AGAIN. I was so bummed to miss this race last year, but I had to have a toenail surgically removed, so it kind of put a kink in my 2014 fall racing calendar! đ This year, I plan on hitting the starting line of this beautiful half as planned.
Why The Cape Cod Half Marathon?
I majorly heart all things fall, first and foremost fall running. In my opinion, there is no better time to enjoy the beautiful Cape scenery. The temps lower a bit and are nice and cool in the morning and evenings– perfect for running. The humidity also drops, making the air nice and easy to breathe.
The tourists leave town (sorry guys!), and we finally get our roads and bike path back! It’s like taking a literal (and figurative) deep breath of fresh, crisp air. I’m not saying I don’t like summer and beach days, I just don’t like running in summer nearly as much. So that’s exactly why I’m signed up for the ZOOMA Cape Cod Half Marathon and the Cape Cod Half Marathon.
Cape Cod Half Marathon Course
The course for the Cape Cod Half Marathon follows the road along Nantucket Sound and is considered “fast and scenic.” I can’t vouch for the “fast” part, since I haven’t run it yet, but the scenic portion is definitely very accurate. I regularly run along many of the roads included on the course, so it will be fun to race on them! The course also overlaps with parts of the Falmouth Road Race course. You can check out the Cape Cod Half Marathon map HERE.
There are water stops located at miles 2.5, 4, 5.75, 7.5 (an official Halloween candy stop– how cool?!), 9.25, and 10.75. In case you need to use the facilities, there are also 6 portable bathrooms along the route.
Registration
You can register for the Cape Cod Half Marathon online via ChronoTrack. The registration fee is $75.00 (the early bird $65.00 fee expired July 31) through October 25 (or until the race sells out–Â which it has before!). The half marathon field is limited to 1200, so you don’t have to worry about huge crowds. You should plan to complete the course under 3 hours, because the course will close, along with official timing. Further information on race day details and registration can be found HERE.
