When I first read about this story yesterday, it made me cry. Accidents happen every day, everywhere, but the reality is that this could have been any one of my mother runner readers. Meg Menzies was a mother of three who was tragically struck and killed by a drunk driver while out on a run with another family member this past Monday at 8:15 in the morning. The drunk driver has since been arrested.
Meg was a very active member of her local running community– the Richmond Road Runners Club. She was a fantastic runner and marathoner. It hurts so much to think about her family and her children who will miss her. I cannot even begin to imagine…It’s also truly scary to think that you could go out for a run in broad daylight on a week day morning and be struck down by an impaired driver, yet I’m sure it happens all too often.
This saturday an event has been organized via Facebook – Meg’s Miles for all runners to dedicate their Saturday miles in Meg’s honor. Go outside and run and do what we all love and have in common. So please run your miles and share them using the hashtag #megsmiles. It’s a small way we can all honor the memory of a fellow mother runner…
Please share this information with as many other runners as possible! 🙂
