A Relaxing Run Through Amish Country

FAMILY TRAVEL

We headed back from our Pennsylvania getaway yesterday. Before we got in the car for the last leg of the trip, I headed out for a relaxing run through Amish country.

On Sunday night, we stayed at the Historic Strasburg Inn (which is now a Clarion Inn). It’s always nostalgic staying there, since we stopped there several times on the way to Pittsburgh when I was a child. It has changed quite a bit, but it still has its character!

Amish Country I woke up a little earlier and hit up the breakfast room for a bagel with PB and some coffee with my mother (BEST traveling companion ever for doing this road trip with us!). Then I went out for a nice and easy 4-miler. What a change from hilly Southwestern PA!

There were a few hills, but thankfully, they were nothing like the ones I ran over the weekend!! I ran through historic downtown Strasburg and out on some farm roads. What a beautiful morning and a beautiful run!

The biggest challenge of this morning’s run was dodging horse manure in the bicycle/horse buggy lane. Winking smile It was so relaxing to run in such a quiet area, without being worried about the traffic (aside from some horse and buggies!). It was so peaceful and a nice last run before heading back to reality.

Before leaving Amish country, we visited the Railroad Museum of Pennsylvania, which was phenomenal! It definitely exceeded my expectations. There were many lovingly restored engines and period pieces.

Since the boys love trains, they were in heaven! They even had a large area for children with a number of train tables and a model train set for the older children to assemble and operate. The museum was so much fun!

After our visit there, we hit the road for the trip back and pulled into our driveway around 6 pm. Whew—it was a whirlwind trip, but so much fun! I will post some pics of the wedding later this week.

I’m glad you had a good time! I still have not been to that Railroad museum… I need to take L next time we’re visiting my parents.
