This past weekend I was in Philly to help celebrate my BFF’s bridal shower. What a beautiful weekend all around. I got to enjoy a 5 1/2 hour train ride of silence, reading, eating (without anyone trying to steal my food!), and enjoying a glass of wine.
I had never taken that long of a train ride on Amtrak, and aside from the many stops (I didn’t take the Acela), it was quite a pleasant experience! I met up with my BFF in New York City and we rode the rest of the way to Philly together.
We got in around 9:30 at night on Friday and chatted a while before I hit the sack. On Saturday morning, I went for the most fantastic run along the Wissahickon Valley Trail. I really wish I had taken pictures!!
This is a gorgeous path used by equestrians, runners, walkers, and bikers, and it was packed on a Saturday morning. It was so nice to see everyone enjoying the beautiful fall weather, and although it was crowded, the trail was wide enough to accommodate everyone comfortable.
I did about 5 miles and headed back to get ready for the shower. It was so fun to meet Lisa’s extended family and friends who I have heard so much about. I also got a chance to meet up with a college friend and fellow bridesmaid, Kim. We enjoyed wonderful food and good conversation and then headed back home to recoup before dinner out.
That evening Lisa, Dana (fellow bridesmaid) and I headed to a late dinner at Iron Hill Brewery in Chestnut Hill—great menu and great beer! I had to leave early Sunday morning to get the train back to Providence, so it wasn’t too late of a night.
On Sunday, I got back around 1:30 and was able to squeeze in 6 miles. My legs were very thankful for the ability to stretch out after the long train ride home. It was another day of stellar fall weather—I will miss fall when it finally leaves. Nothing beats fall running in my opinion!
