This past weekend, we headed down to Falmouth for an overnight at my in-laws. My husband and I decided to do our Valentine’s date on Saturday night, since we had a gift certificate to a wonderful Falmouth restaurant (the Glass Onion) and free babysitting!
We got to Falmouth right before lunch and enjoyed a beautiful afternoon outside. Although it was s little windy near the water, it’s still hard to believe that it’s February- it felt like a spring afternoon!
We took a nice walk around the neighborhood and down to the cove to look for sea shells and sea glass. See the picture for a collection of sea glass my mother-in-law has collected over the past year. There is not nearly as much sea glass as there used to be, but you can still find some beautiful pieces! As always, the beaches here are stunning. After growing up on the Cape, I miss getting to see its beauty everyday.
Saturday evening we headed over to a fabulous Falmouth restaurant called the Glass Onion. My husband and I had been there once before; and we were very impressed with the food and atmosphere, so we were excited to head back for a second visit.
I decided on the “Porcini Dusted Day Boat Haddock, Lobster Mashed Potatoes, Haricot Vert, Lobster Butter.” It was probably the best meal I have ever had, seriously! My husband was equally impressed with his meal, so it was a wonderful and much needed date night.
The awesome weekend was capped off by two runs of two miles each. I ran Saturday during my ART session—she had me warm up running, treated me, and then I ran again. Dr. Capaldi reminded me again that I need to go very slowly, so I don’t stress the hip flexors too much. I went for a run along the beach Sunday morning.
Although I still feel the right hip flexor when I run, it felt so much better after stretching. I am going to stick with about two miles a day and see how it goes for a bit. The picture on the left was taken right down the street (Surf Drive Beach) on my run Sunday morning. I used to walk down to this beach for swimming lessons when I was little!
I am just SO THANKFUL to be able to run again! Hope everyone had a fabulous weekend too!
Look at the colors in the sky! So beautiful. I also love collecting sea shells and sea glass. In my mind, I’ll someday make something artistic out of them, but that day has yet to come 🙂 Sounds like a wonderful weekend!
It was gorgeous!! Saturday’s was nice too. There is a company in Hawaii that makes beautiful jewelry out of the sea glass they collect, if only I could remember the name! 🙂
Cutting back mileage is one of the hardest things for seasoned runners to do, but I am so happy for you that you were able to run twice now. Continue with the reduced mileage and hopefully you will soon be 100% again. Congrats! and Happy V Day!
Thanks Janice! It’s so hard to be patient. I keep second guessing whether I am doing too much or if some soreness is just going to be normal as I return to my activities! Darn hip flexors! 😉
Oh, what a fun weekend! And lobster mashed potatoes? Wow. So glad you’re back to running with minimal pain. You’re doing such a good job of coming back slowly, hope it continues to feel good and improve!
